It looks like LG is finally recognizing the issues it has with keeping its smartphones updated, so it has dedicated resources to open a Software Upgrade Center, to ensure timely updates.
There is a huge problem when it comes to Android and its updates. While Google does an excellent job of maintaining its own devices (as expected), other firms, not so much. LG is aiming to change this by opening a new facility that will be aimed at providing its customers “with faster, timelier, smartphone operating system and software updates”.
The Software Upgrade Center is a research and development campus located in Magok-dong, western Seoul, South Korea. The center will not only be tasked with developing and delivering OS updates for LG smartphones, it will also be responsible for ensuring the maintenance of that experience once it is delivered to customers. LG hopes that the creation of the campus will allow the firm to “roll out OS updates faster in countries where LG smartphones are available”.
While there are plenty of handsets in LG’s lineup that need some update love, one of the first that will be getting it is the G6. The firm aims to update it to Android Oreo later this month in Korea, with other markets to follow shortly thereafter. This is a huge step for LG but we will have to wait for them to first deliver before offering praise.
