OK, who nodded off?
Robert Englund is returning as his iconic horror movie character Freddy Krueger one final time for a documentary focused on the special effects makeup that crafted his dream-invading, youth murderer in the Nightmare on Elm Street series.
Nightmares in the Makeup Chair will highlight the importance of practical makeup — with the help of special makeup effects artist Robert Kurtzman — in addition to Englund paying tribute to the late director Wes Craven and sharing some stories from his time working the slasher films.
“I’ve always been in awe of the multi-talented makeup effects artists,” the 69-year-old Englund said in a statement. “This documentary not only captures their talent, but I think it might inspire a new generation of practical effects artists. I was happy to become Freddy once again to share the makeup process with the fans.”
Englund last played Krueger in 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason , which marked his eighth time donning the striped sweater, fedora and, of course, the sinister glove.
The Krueger character was also played by Jackie Earle Haley in the 2010 Nightmare reboot. In that film, Haley’s disfigured appearance was helped with some CGI.
It’s unclear if this doc is… a wipe at that way of going about the character’s look.
Nightmares in the Makeup Chair is due out later this year.
