Following the uproar concerning the video of ‘comedian’ Kathy Griffin ‘beheading’ the president, a CNN analyst claimed that the Trumps are taking advantage of the incident and “playing the victim” to get sympathy.
CNN anchor Jake Tapper announced “It’s pretty disgusting, and I can’ t imagine how anybody would think that’s appropriate, ” also noting that Donald Trump Jr. is out there saying this is now considered to be acceptable discourse by the left, ” alluding to this tweet:
Talking head (no pun intended) Molly Ball then dismissed the issue, stating “I have a hard time bringing myself to care about something like this.”
Ball added “I think it just speaks to the need to see themselves as a victim that they have, that they are constantly being persecuted.”
“The Trump people are constantly having to point to the elites who are looking down on them, ” Ball continued, as if it is weird and strange that the President and his family would be disgusted or upset with a depiction of Trump’s severed bloody head.
“Of course, comedians and celebrities say dumb stuff and do dumb stuff and violence is not appropriate, but I just don’ t think that that’s the source of President Trump’s problems, ” Ball concluded.
The other CNN guests Jen Psaki and David Urban concurred and dismissed the item as not newsworthy.
It is somewhat difficult to imagine the same talking heads not blinking an eye had a right wing comedian held up a bloody severed head of President Obama while he was in office.
CNN wasn’ t the only network to declare the Griffin stunt a storm in a tea cup, with MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts declaring that they were refusing to cover the story because it is ‘not worth doing’ .
In the very next breath, however, Mika Brzezinski declared that they would cover a typo Trump made in a tweet, then proceeded to tease the upcoming item for another segment.
“We’ ll ask award winning linguist, Nicholas Confessore to help us break down the word covfefe.” Brzezinski stated.
Indeed, as the Media Research Center notes, the major news networks spent over ten minutes covering the typo.
