Deputy William Durr, 36, was a two-year veteran of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Veteran Lincoln County Deputy William Durr, 36, has been identified as the officer killed during a shooting rampage that left a total of 8 people dead Saturday morning (May 28) in Mississippi, the Clarion-Ledger reported. The shooting suspect, Willie Corey Godbolt, 35, was detained by authorities in connection with the killings perpetrated at three separate homes beginning around 11: 30 p.m. Saturday, the Clarion-Ledger reported. Speaking to the Clarion-Ledger shortly after his arrest Sunday, Godbolt admitted to the slayings and said he wanted to commit “suicide by cop” following an argument with his estranged wife over their children.
“My pain wasn’t designed for him. He was just there, ” Godbolt said of Durr to the Clarion Ledger. “We was talking about me trying to take the children home … somebody called the officer … that’s what they do, they intervene. It cost him his life. I’m sorry.”
