Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 blasts its way to the top of the box office with a stratospheric $145 million haul

Star-Lord Peter Quill and his mismatched band of unlikely heroes blasted The Fate Of The Furious off the No.! spot which the eighth film in the fast cars franchise had held for three weeks.
Star-Lord Peter Quill and his mismatched band of unlikely heroes have grabbed the top spot at the weekend box office.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 blasted into theaters grabbing an enormous $145 million – $5 million more than estimated going into the weekend, according to Variety .
The sequel from Disney and Marvel saw Chris Pratt reprise his roles as the wise cracking Star-Lord, along with Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket the racoon and Vin Diesel voicing Baby Groot.
The blockbuster opened overseas in several countries including Russia and China last weekend so it had already banked more then $100 million when it hit theaters Stateside on Thursday.
Its global haul now stands at $427.6 million
Guardians knocked Fate Of The Furious off the top spot it had held for three weeks, leaving it in the dust in second place with $8.5 million.
The fast cars film boasts a starry ensemble cast including Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges and Jason Statham.
The eighth film in the franchise has now raced off with a little more than $207 million at the domestic box office and a stunning $1.2 billion globally.
The Boss Baby, featuring the voice talent of Alec Baldwin as the baby, took third with $6.2 million in its sixth week of release.
The family friendly animated movie has earned $156.7 million domestically and $435 million globally
How To Be A Latin Lover, starring Salma Hayek, Eugenio Derbez, Rob Lowe, Kristen Bell and veteran beauty Raquel Welch, seduced its way into fourth with $5.3 million, pushing its total to $20.6 million.
Disney’s other box office animal Beauty And The Beast, starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as her furry jailer, rounded out the top five with $5 million in its eighth weekend of release.
It has now waltzed away with nearly $1.2 billion globally to become the top earning film of the year so far, according to Box Office Mojo .
