On what he dubbed ‘Comey Testimony Eve, the ‘Late Show’ host highlighted parts of the text of the former FBI Director’s statement to the Senate.
Wednesday night was “the most magical night of the year” according to Stephen Colbert, who dubbed it “Comey Testimony Eve.”
Regarding a dinner that Comey had with President Trump shortly after he was sworn into office, Comey said he “assumed there would be others.” It turned out to be just the two of them “seated at a small oval table” as Comey described it.
“Oh, come on, that’s the oldest trick in the book, ” Colbert advised. “You invite your FBI Director over for a movie, saying it’s going to be a ‘group thing.’ When he shows up, it’s just the two of you. Can’ t make Netflix work so, you know… so you obstruct justice.”
Per Comey, the president also made a request for “loyalty” at their dinner on Jan. 27. “I didn’ t move, speak, or change my facial expression in any way during the awkward silence that followed, ” he stated. “We simply looked at each other in silence.”
