A garbage truck smashed into a 27-year-old Brooklyn bicyclist, killing the man and then fleeing the scene early Saturday.
The cyclist was riding his mountain bike south along Franklin St. near Noble St. in Greenpoint when he was hit by a white private sanitation truck driving south along Franklin St. around 12: 30 a.m., according to authorities.
A mangled yellow and black Hummer bicycle lay in the corner of the roadway.
The victim suffered severe trauma, cops said. He died at the scene.
The garbage truck drove off following the crash but it is not clear the driver was aware he hit the cyclist, police sources said.
