The former U. S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York took the governor to task for going to the beach after closing state parks due to a budget shutdown.
It’s a battle of Bruce Springsteen-loving former U. S. attorneys.
Preet Bharara, the former U. S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York who was fired by President Trump, took New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, also a former U. S. attorney, to task for going to the beach after closing state parks due to a budget shutdown.
“Attn Chris: When Springsteen sang, ‘Down the shore everything’s all right,’ I’ m pretty sure this is not what he had in mind, ” Bharara tweeted.
Christie sunned himself during a Sunday trip to the governor’s residence at Island Beach State Park. Responding to critics of his summer fling to Fox 29 in Philadelphia, Christie said, “Well, I’ m sorry… they’ re not the governor .”
Bharara also cited Winston Churchill in his criticism of Christie.
“Also not Churchillian: ‘We shall close our bridge, whatever the cost may be, we shall shut down the beaches . we shall never surrender.’ “ Bharara tweeted.
Bharara is a fan of Springsteen and the feeling is mutual. The Boss dedicated the song “Death to My Hometown” to Bharara during a 2012 concert in Hartford. Christie, a former U. S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, is also a fan of Springsteen but he’s never had a song dedicated to him by the Boss.
