A line of strong storms working its way through the Atlanta metro area could dampen your Fourth of July festivities. These storms are moving to the east at 30 mph hour bringing gusty winds and frequent lightning.
The line will likely moving through the metro during the early evening and dissipate around 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. — just in time for fireworks celebrations to get underway.
The storms prompted a severe thunderstorm warning for several metro Atlanta counties, and the threat of more lightning and hail continues.
11Alive StormTracker Samantha Mohr said that the storms are expected to move out of the area in time for most fireworks celebrations, but the grounds will be wet. Be sure to monitor weather conditions as sunset approaches, as things could change. Some celebrations could be delayed or modified depending on how the line approaches.
Overnight we will have partly cloudy skies and mild temps.
Wednesday morning will be muggy and partly cloudy. In the afternoon we will warm into the low 90s. It will feel like it’s closer to 100 degrees with the heat index. We will have a 30% chance for some afternoon and evening pop up showers. During the evening hours, it will remain very muggy and hot.
Afternoon and evening thunderstorms will continue for the rest of the forecast period. This is of course typical summertime weather for the Atlanta area!
