The shop has been a fixture on Magazine Street.
Blue Frog Chocolates, the whimsical candy shop, at 5707 Magazine St., announced Tuesday (Aug. 15) that it is closing, after 17 years in business.
A note from owners Rick Streiffer and his wife, Ann on the Blue Frog Facebook page read: “Blue Frog Chocolates will be closing for business at the end of the month.”
“It’s been 17 years and it’s just time for us to move on, ” Ann Streiffer said. “We’re getting older and moving on. We’ve got grandkids all over the country. We’re just at that point our lives where we want to move on.”
Still, she said: “It’s a little bittersweet. We just put the announcement out today. Just hung the sign today, and I’ve already had a customer who is coming in to fill her freezer.”
“We appreciate all of our supporters over the years, ” Streiffer said, adding that many of them have been customers since the start.
The Facebook note went on to say: “We thank you all who supported our locally owned family business, and hope you will continue to do the same for others like us. It has been ‘sweet’ to bring a bit of pleasure to you and yours!”
The shop will close on Aug. 31. The couple noted that its candy will sell at a “deep discount, and all fixtures are also available” for sale.
