Dungy Donates To Remove Confederate Statue

Bucs, Rays, and Lighting also made donations
Hillsborough County (Florida) Commissioners decided Wednesday that a Confederate statue will stay where it is unless private funds are raised to have it removed within 30 days.
Tony Dungy, former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, donated $5,000 to the cause and also set up a GoFundMe page Thursday. That page has already raised over $50,000.
The goal is to reach $140,000 by the end of the month, and Dungy asked the Bucs, Rays and Lighting to join him in donating. All three major league teams agreed and the Bucs released a statement via Twitter.
The statue, known as Memoria In Aeterna sits, has been outside of the Hillsborough County Courthouse since 1911, according to Sports Illustrated .
The Hillsborough County Commissioners voted 4-2 on Wednesday to require private funds be raised in order to have the statue removed. Bob Gries, a former owner of the arena football team in Tampa, donated $50,000 and Bob Buckhorn, mayor of Tampa, has donated $1,000.
