Facebook has confirmed it knows about the problem and says it’s working on it.
Facebook is down for some users around the world.
A map by Down Detector, which keeps track of outages of the world’s largest social network, shows problems throughout the world, and in the comments users are chiming in to confirm that they can’t access Facebook, or that the site is slow.
The #FacebookDown hashtag is also making the rounds on Twitter. Some users say they can access Facebook on mobile but not desktop.
In addition, Instagram users are reporting they’re unable to use Facebook’s photo-sharing social network.
“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram,” a Facebook spokeswoman said in an email Wednesday morning. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”
The outage comes at an inopportune time for users in Northern California, who have been relying on the company’s Safety Check feature to figure out whether their friends and family are affected by the Wine Country fires.
Facebook says it has 2 billion users worldwide, and that Instagram has 800 million users.
