A Houston man who police say used a rifle and scope to shoot a woman last year now faces murder charges after his alleged victim died from her injuries.
Around 3 p.m. on Oct. 21,2016, police say M. L. Burks, 58, who is wheelchair-bound, was sitting on the balcony of his apartment in the 4600 block of Balkin Street, in southeast Houston, when he shot Rhonda Davis, 58.
Police told local media that the distance between Burk’s balcony and the store where Davis was shot was no more than 123 yards.
Burks was later arrested for the crime, and Davis was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and died July 23 from her wounds, police said. Burks’ charges were upgraded to murder last week.
Burks had been previously convicted for murder in 1984, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. He was released on mandatory supervision in 2000, from which he discharged in 2001.
