A 61-year-old man was killed Friday night after multiple vehicles hit cows that were in the middle of the road in Pierson, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Lawrence Allegro, of Enterprise, was driving east on State Road 40 near Seymore Road when three cows escaped a fenced area and were in the road, Sgt. Kim Montes said.
Lazaro Perez, 51, of Miami, was driving west and struck a cow, as did Allegro. After hitting the cow, Perez traveled into the eastbound lane and hit Allegro’s car head on, Montes said.
After the crash, a semi truck struck a third cow. All three cows died.
Allegro was taken to Halifax Medical Center, where he died, Montes said. Perez had minor injuries and was treated at the scenes.
Montes did not say whether the driver of the semi truck was injured in the crash. The driver was not identified.
No further information was immediately available.
The crash is under investigation, Montes said.
