Valve has given out the Portal license to Headup Games, the creator of Bridge Constructor, to create a spinoff title named Bridge Constructor Portal.
Now that Valve is pretty much done with creating new video game titles, it’s a shame that we won’t get the chance to experience Half-life or Portal again. Thankfully, the company has supposedly given out the Portal license to Headup Games, the creator of Bridge Constructor, to create a spinoff of both titles named Bridge Constructor Portal.
Bridge Constructor Portal, as the name suggests, will combine the fun of creating complex bridges for a van to pass through along with Aperture Science’s unique inventions like portals and bouncing gels. You’ll have to find a way to use all these mechanics to get the vehicle to the end of the test chamber, as it was in the Portal series.
Fans don’t seem to take this announcement for good though. With a quick glimpse at the trailer’s comments, you can see people ramming about this being a prank and cursing on Valve’s decision to “kill” the series and give it away to become a spinoff.
This project is not new though, as seen in the game’s description on Youtube. Headup Games seem to be working on it for quite some time now:
For the last year, we’ve been secretly working in our underground labs on the next iteration of the million-selling Bridge Constructor series. This new stand-alone title will release on PC, MacOS, Linux, mobile devices, and console, and fully embraces the Portal license, one of the most beloved video game franchises of the last decade.
Bridge Constructor Portal will be released on December 20,2017, for Windows, MacOS, and Linux as well as for mobile devices. The console versions will follow in early 2018. The game will cost $10 for the PC, MacOS and Linux versions and $5 for the iOS and Android apps.
Do you think Valve’s decision to give the Portal license over to Headup Games for Bridge Constructor Portal was understandable? Would you play this game even if it’s completely different than the original Portal?
