Police ID minivan driver killed in crash with semi-truck

Two children were taken to a hospital for treatment.
HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, MI — Police have identified the woman killed Friday, Dec. 1, when her minivan collided with a semi-truck.
Deborah Baier, 68, of Watervliet, was driving east on 66th Avenue at around 7:30 a.m. when she failed to stop at the stop sign at County Road 687, according to Michigan State Police. Baier’s minivan struck a semi-truck that was southbound on County Road 687.
Baier was pronounced dead at the scene. Two minor children who were in the van were taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital for treatment.
Michigan State Police Paw Post Sgt. Brenda Casperson said at the scene the children were alert and talking.
Casperson said the investigation shows the woman hit the fuel tank of the semi-truck.
Fuel was spilled on the road and crews spread sand to clean the scene.
The truck driver was not hurt.
The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
