Today, T-Mobile CEO John Legere has announced the wireless carrier’s acquisition of Layer3. The firm will also debut its own TV service which is slated to arrive sometime in 2018.
It was only a few short years ago that T-Mobile CEO John Legere announced the start of a new movement in wireless dubbed Un-carrier. While many in the industry initially scoffed at the idea, since that time and after over a dozen Un-carrier movements, the landscape has changed dramatically with many competitors following suit. Looking to once again shake things up, T-Mobile has now announced the acquisition of Layer3 in a move to launch its own TV service in 2018.
According to Legere, cable and satellite service providers are using the same tactics that wireless carriers did some years ago like locking customers into multi-year contracts. On top of this, the service providers also try and squeeze more money out its customers by bundling services together and also adding hidden fees. While the details are scarce, T-Mobile’s TV service will aim to change an industry once again. The service will be available in homes and also while on the go through its mobile devices. While there isn’t a set date, the service is slated to make its debut sometime in 2018.
