“Had I been on set or known about this, I would have made all efforts to stop this,” the actor tweeted.
On Thursday, actor Matthew Morrison said his “heart is broken” over an apparent dog abuse video that surfaced from the set of his upcoming film, Crazy Alien. The scene in question involves a dog being abducted by aliens, and its seemingly controversial behind-the-scene shooting process has faced criticism.
The video clip was obtained by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) from the Crazy Alien set in China. In the clip, a German Shepherd was put inside a cramped cage that was spun around aggressively by a crane. The cage, with the dog allegedly inside, dropped from 20 feet into “a frigid, fast-flowing river,” PETA said.

Morrison, 39, took to Twitter to express his outrage. “I’ve just been made aware and seen a video from the set of a film I worked on in China,” he wrote . “My heart is broken to see any animal treated this way. Had I been on set or known about this, I would have made all efforts to stop this.”
The Glee alum said he called the film’s producers to share his “outrage” regarding the misconduct. The dog is said to have been shaken up but not injured.
PETA urges the film’s cast to “hold the production accountable” for the apparent abuse. “2018 is the Year of the Dog, but instead of being celebrated and respected, this poor dog was tortured,” PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange in a statement issued to Newsweek . “In a movie already using special effects, why was this animal subjected to fear and suffering? Because there are no laws protecting animals on film sets in China.”
Taking the apparent torture into consideration, PETA hopes the general public will boycott what organization called a “hideously cruel film.”

Directed by Hao Ning, Crazy Alien is a dark comedy and science fiction, the third installment of Ning’s Crazy franchise, which includes 2006’s Crazy Stone and 2009’s Crazy Racer. The film’s plot has not been revealed at this time.
Dirty Monkey Films Group, the production company, didn’t respomd to Newsweek ‘s request for comment.
