He is the fourth person killed, and at least three others have been hit and survived, since high-speed service began earlier this year.
A man was struck and killed by a Brightline train Sunday afternoon in Delray Beach, according to the Delray Beach Police Department.
The man was hit at 12:47 p.m.by a northbound train about 100 feet south of the Southeast Fourth Street railroad crossing, according to a report by television station WPTV.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by police.
The man is the fourth person the train has struck and killed, and at least three others were hit and survived, since the high-speed service between Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach began earlier this year.
On Jan. 12, the eve of Brightline starting limited service between West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, pedestrian Melissa Lavell was killed after apparently trying to beat a Brightline train at Northeast Sixth Avenue in Boynton Beach.
Five days later, bicyclist Jeffrey King was hit and killed by an oncoming Brightline train — also in Boynton Beach — after biking around the lowered safety gates, according to video of the incident.
On March 11, a man standing on the train tracks in West Palm Beach was killed by a southbound train.
Witnesses to Sunday’s fatality are asked to call the Delray Police Department: 561-243-7800.
