THQ Nordic, the publisher behind the upcoming Darksiders 3, announces that it will not be attending E3 2018 this year, instead opting to watch the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
In a move that may disappoint those attending this year’s E3 Expo, THQ Nordic has decided it will not be showcasing its upcoming titles at the event, including flagship release Darksiders 3, instead choosing to watch the 2018 FIFA World Cup. THQ Nordic released a statement citing the impractical time difference between Santa Monica and Russia (where the World Cup is being held) as the reason why it and Darksiders 3 will be absent at E3.
The humorous statement talks of the difficulties staff at the developer would have enjoying the World Cup “festivities” with the significant time difference at play:
“We have to admit, we are going to miss our 9 AM pint of beer in the ‘Ye Olde King’s Head’-Pub in Santa Monica, where they show all matches live, but with the World Cup being held in Russia, it would mean a 7 AM beer – that’s too early, even for Austrians, let alone the Swedes.”
Fans of THQ Nordic had been hoping to catch a glimpse of its future projects at E3, chiefly Darksiders 3, but it seems as though the community will have to wait for further demonstrations of what to expect from the company. Luckily, THQ Nordic also confirmed that its plans for other conventions, including Gamescom and PAX West, remain unaltered by this news and Darksiders isn’t the only game that will be featured. Other games developed by the company to be shown off at these events include Wreckfest, Fade to Silence, and Biomutant.
Darksiders 3 will be the first game produced for the franchise since the release of Darksiders 2 in 2012. That game had a hugely inflated $50 million budget and the developers of the latest iteration are keen to avoid the mistakes of the preceding title. Details of the new game are relatively thin on the ground but players will take on the role of a new protagonist named Fury, and still have the opportunity to explore an expansive world packed with quests, monsters, and dungeons.
Darksiders 3 is scheduled for release in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
