Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery forces players to jump through some hoops to restart the game and start a new save, but here are the known methods to get it done.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, the new mobile Harry Potter RPG, has been out for a couple of days now and it seems to be gaining some popularity, despite criticism aimed at how it implements its free-to-play economy. However, some players may regret some of the choices they made at the beginning of the game and will want to start fresh, only to find it’s not all that easy to do so.
While there isn’t a straightforward way for players to delete their save in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and effectively reset their game to the beginning, there are workarounds that make this possible. Anyone that hopes to utilize most of these workarounds will need to have an active Facebook account, however.
The first method can be done with a single device. Simply link Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery to Facebook, log out of Facebook, delete the game, clear the browser cache and cookies, and log back into Facebook. On Facebook, go to the Apps and Websites settings through the app, and choose to remove Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. This should completely wipe the save data and allow players to start over from the beginning.
The second method involves using two devices. Players will need to log in to Facebook through Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery with their second device, exit the game, and then go back to the first device and log in to Facebook from there.
A third (untested) method has potentially been discovered as well. Apparently starting the game while not connected to any Internet source will effectively overwrite the old one once an Internet connection is established.
Some may be wondering why anyone would want to reset their Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery save to the beginning. While players are still able to customize their character to a certain extent after starting the game, they are unable to switch houses or obtain a different wand. So for example, someone may have ended up in Slytherin when they would have rather been in Ravenclaw, and may want to start fresh.
It’s unfortunate that those people have to jump through so many hoops to reset their Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery save, but Jam City and Portkey Games may patch in a more straightforward method in the future.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is 0ut now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
