Man shot in neck during officer-involved shooting at Zebulon gas station

Authorities are investigating after an officer shot a man in the neck Sunday evening in Zebulon.
Zebulon, N. C. — Authorities are investigating after an officer shot a man in the neck Sunday evening in Zebulon.
Zebulon Police Chief Tim Hayworth said a police officer approached a man at Murphy’s Gas Station at 841 East Gannon Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. to discuss a warrant and the man shoved the officer.
The man then produced a weapon and a second responding officer fired one shot, which struck the man in the neck, Hayworth said.
Hayworth did not disclose what type of weapon the man displayed, but said it had been secured at the scene.
The man was taken to an area hospital, but his condition was unknown. Both officers involved in the incident were unharmed, authorities said.
Authorities did not release the identity of the man or the officers involved or any details about the warrants.
The SBI will investigate the incident, which is protocol with officer-involved shootings.
