There’s a lot of directions the next “Star Trek” film could boldly go, and Quinto isn’t sure which script will be used
Zachary Quinto is looking forward to returning to Federation Space to play Spock again in another “Star Trek” film, but he says that the franchise’s next step is very much up in the air, with three scripts currently in development.
In an interview with ET Canada this past weekend, Quinto was asked about his thoughts on the possibility of Quentin Tarantino possibly joining the Trek universe as a writer or director. Quinto noted that any Tarantino Trek project won’t be happening for a while, as the filmmaker is currently working on his ninth movie, “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.”

And even still, there’s two other scripts currently being developed: one by Patrick McKay and J. D. Payne — who wrote the first draft for “Star Trek: Beyond” — and another by Doug Jung and Quinto’s co-star Simon Pegg, who wrote “Beyond’s” final draft.
“I feel like we are in a state of anticipation,” Quinto said. “All of us are really excited about the idea of working with Quentin on a Trek film, but I know Simon Pegg and Doug Jung… are writing a script and there are another set of writers writing a script. So I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

McKay and Payne’s script, which was first announced in 2016 shortly after the release of “Beyond,” was said to feature Captain Kirk — played by Chris Pine — teaming up with his father — played by Chris Hemsworth — who died in the line of Federation duty at the start of J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot film.
The next “Trek” film was tentatively scheduled for a 2019 release, but Paramount hasn’t announced a production start date yet, and any project involving Tarantino will have to wait until “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood” is released in August of next year.
