Tonya Harding has a supportive onscreen mom in Allison Janney.
Janney, 58, who won an Oscar for her turn as Harding’s mother, LaVona, in “I, Tonya,” was on hand to cheer for the once-disgraced former figure skater at the premiere of “ Dancing with the Stars ” on Monday.
Janney joined McKenna Grace, who starred as young Harding in the film, as well as screenwriter Steven Rogers, in the audience, blowing her kisses from the crowd.
“It was truly amazing,” Harding, 47, told People . “I asked them to come and they said, ‘Yes absolutely.’ So I was just like, ‘Yes! They can be here for my new beginning that was made from a fresh start from them.’”
Not present were Harding’s real-life husband, Joseph Jens Price, and her 7-year-old son, Gordon. “We chose to keep my son out of the public eye for his safety. I’m sorry, but this world can sometimes be cruel,” she explained.
It isn’t the first time that the lifetime runner-up (and attempted police of the press) and Janney have shown one another love.
Harding accompanied Janney to the Golden Globes and its afterparties in January, and Janney previously revealed that Harding texted her to congratulate her on her Oscar nomination.
