Crusader Kings board games already doubles its crowdfunding goal
Imperator: Rome was revealed earlier today in Stockholm as the next grand strategy title coming from Paradox Interactive. There was a lot more news coming out for fans of Paradox’s work. Here’s a trailer-by-trailer recap:
Paradox Interactive said it’s working with established tabletop designers to bring out board games based on the Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis and Cities: Skylines franchises.
Crusader Kings: The Board Game opened with a Kickstarter fund drive today and has almost doubled its original goal in a day. Cities: Skylines, reports PC Gamer, is being handled by Rustan Hakansson, maker of Nations. Crusader Kings: The Board Game is by Free League Publishing. in addition to a detailed game board, include 70 plastic figurines, 110 character cards, 155 action cards, and loads more.
The Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron adaptations have a longer way to go; Eagle-Gryphon Games is working on Hearts of Iron and envisions a Kickstarter announcement sometime next year. Europa Universalis 4, which launched in early 2014, is getting a new expansion, “Dharma,” which takes that series to the Indian subcontinent. That will bring new gameplay options along with the setting. The expansion is the 13th for Europa Universalis 4 and will cost $19.99.
Hearts of Iron 4, the most recent game made in-house by Paradox Interactive (launching June 2016), gets its fourth expansion, “Man the Guns.” This one expands naval aspect of the World War 2 strategy title. It doesn’t have a release date yet.
Lest ye forget Crusader Kings 2, which launched in 2012, it will get a 15th expansion — “Holy Fury.” In this chapter, rulers can use religious fervor and fury in ways they never have before, continuing or changing the nature of Europe’s biggest powers through the Medieval times. In the struggles of Catholic Europe versus pagans, players will be able to reform their country’s religion instead of converting. “Build a new creed on the ashes of the old ways,” Paradox Interactive said in a statement. “Holy Fury” will be $19.99 when it launches.
Triumph Studios’ venerable (almost 20 years old) Age of Wonders series, which last launched in 2014 with Age of Wonders 3, is getting a sci-fi spin in Age of Wonders: Planetfall. Triumph’s boss said the game is almost three years into development and is due to launch in 2019. “While the setting is new, we’re confident that Age of Wonders fans will feel right at home exploring the remnants of the Star Union,” Triumph CEO Lennart Sas said, according to PC Gamer . “Our aim is to make a game that greatly expands upon its predecessors, and still employs the core principles that made Age of Wonders such a success.”
