Players normally finish less than half of a Call of Duty campaign when they play a game, abandoning it soon afterward to go into the game’s multiplayer modes.
In case you didn’t believe that the story wasn’t important to many players of first-person shooters, new research has come to light that says that most Call of Duty players normally finish less than half of a Call of Duty campaign when they play one, in favor of the multiplayer.
While campaigns have never been essentially in Call of Duty, it does provide most gamers the ability to break up the monotony of multiplayer in favor of action-movie style storytelling with plenty of explosions and tense firefights. However, that’s apparently not good enough for many players, who only get a little ways into the campaign before going off to play the multiplayer.
It’s likely that these stats are what has caused Call of Duty Black Ops 4 to completely forgo any sort of campaign in favor of an entirely multiplayer approach, featuring normal Call of Duty multiplayer modes, zombie modes, and a new Battle Royale mode known as Blackout.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that these statistics about the Call of Duty campaign never being finished could be incorrect. All of the different variants of achievement systems that were studied to learn about how many people actually play the campaign all operate differently.
There are 13 different games that were studied, and Steam achievements and achievements or PSN trophies weren’t taken into account, but from what has already been seen from Xbox versions of the 13 various Call of Duty games, it’s rare that more than 30 percent of Call of Duty players try the campaign at all.
Call of Duty Black Ops 3 was a particular victim of this; only 4% of players participated in that game’s campaign, and that might have been what caused the developer to make Black Ops 4 a multiplayer-only affair. Call of Duty WW2 got a higher rating of 29%.
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 will be coming out on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC on October 12.
