As promised last year, Nintendo has announced that it will be making the NES Classic Edition available again starting by the end of June, over a year after it was originally discontinued.
In 2016, Nintendo made the unprecedented move of releasing a miniaturized version of its Nintendo Entertainment System, which included 30 games in the console itself. The games included some enhancements, such as permanent save points and improved display output.
The system was a significant success, which led to the announcement of a “Classic Edition” of another system from Nintendo, the SNES. However, the demand seemed to outpace the supply, and some fans may have been dismayed when the company announced that the system would be discontinued last year.
Now, following a promise made towards the end of 2017, Nintendo has announced that the NES Classic Edition will be available once again, and customers will be able to purchase it from June 29.
The system will be joining its newer sibling, which was never officially discontinued. However, Nintendo says that the SNES Classic Edition will be available until the end of the year.
The two Classic Edition consoles have been a hit among fans, contributing to very strong results for the company in the last year, but it’s currently unknown if Nintendo plans to release more of its classic systems in this format.
