Gameplay details around Cyberpunk 2077’s combat structure, exploration mechanics, and missions are surfacing following Microsoft’s 2018 E3 presentation.
CD Projekt RED has managed to cause quite a stir with its forthcoming action-RPG Cyberpunk 2077, raising eyebrows with an impressive in-engine trailer revealed as part of Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference. Now, details from the demo are surfacing and providing insights into combat mechanics, exploration, environments, and characters.
E3 2018 unveiled a much deeper look into how players will actually progress through the game both in terms of story and gameplay, than has been seen before. Game Rant reported earlier on the various details regarding the narrative structure, campaign length and dialogue.
One of the primary elements of Cyberpunk 2077‘s gameplay seems to center around what’s described as “vertical exploration,” where players progress through levels of a multi-floor building. Each floor, or level, will present challenges involving attacks by NPCs, puzzles to solve, and quests to fulfill.
Thankfully, Cyberpunk 2077’s world isn’t limited to a small block of buildings. Instead, Night City consists of six districts, characterized by conflicting gangs and a diverse range of cultures. Various locations are scattered across Night City, including markets, bazaars, and tourist attractions, which should help make the world feel vibrant and real.
The vast open-world environment can be explored via car and motorcycle, which can also be used as weapons of combat. Specifically, vehicular combat will feature destructible cars used to take down groups of nearby enemies.
The city’s chief law enforcement group, “Militech,” can be a player’s best friend or worst enemy, depending on that player’s in-game wealth. Militech is Cyberpunk 2077‘s privately-held equivalent of the military and can be employed by players with the right monetary sum. Their help can maintain peace in a volatile situation, and will be able to be used as a force of influence in political scenarios.
Players are tasked with improving their character’s social status, which can be identified by where they live. For example, a spot in the predominantly-Latino Heywood district means the player has managed to maintain a favorable social standing within Night City’s hierarchy. Other areas, such as Pacifica, are characterized by immense poverty and rampant gang activity.
Cyberpunk 2077 is drawing increasing attention every day, and readers can bet Game Rant will be reporting on any new developments up until and after its release.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but lacks an official release date.
