The video game publisher and developer Capcom extends the trademark for Deep Down yet again, which suggests development on the title is still ongoing.
It’s been quite a while since we have received any official updates regarding the PlayStation 4 exclusive dungeon-crawler known as Deep Down, but there is a possibility that the title is still being worked on at Capcom in some capacity. Although the publisher and developer has yet to openly confirm as much, the company has extended the trademark for the game yet again, suggesting that its production is still ongoing.
For those keeping track of the current state of Deep Down, Capcom recently filed a request to extend its time to file a statement of use with the United States Patent Trademark Office, and the government body went ahead and officially approved the request today. While this shows that the publisher and developer is keen to hold on to its rights to the property, it unfortunately doesn’t offer any explicit explanations as to where the game actually is in development.
As of now, this is Capcom’s second trademark request for extension of time to file a statement of use with Deep Down, and it was roughly a year ago that the company filed for a trademark in the United States for the title. While some might see this as a bit of good news, as it could mean that the publisher and developer may eventually bring the title out of the dark and into the light once more, it’s important to reiterate that the firm has not yet officially announced any more plans.
For those unaware, Deep Down was initially unveiled during the PlayStation 4 reveal event way back in early 2013, but has it yet to have a launch date. Capcom originally announced Deep Down as a free-to-play title, but there’s no telling how or if it may be released in the future.
Nevertheless, this recent trademark extension could be an indication that the company might have something to show soon. Although it sounds like a long shot, perhaps Sony will be saving some space for Deep Down during its PlayStation E3 2018 press conference.
Deep Down is currently without an official release date, but has been previously announced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
