Heavy metal band Bad Wolves presented a check for $250,000 to the children of the late Dolores O’Riordan for their version of The Cranberries classic “Zombie.”
This event took place last night at a sold-out Gramercy Theatre in New York City, and it happened right before they performed their haunting rendition of ” Zombie,” which was one of the highlight vocals of the night. O’Riordan’s two sons (Donny Jr. and Taylor Burton) were in attendance, along with their father, Don Burton. This check for a quarter of a million dollars was also accepted on behalf of their two younger sisters, Molly and Dakota Burton.
O’Riordan was going to record her timeless vocals on the track of “Zombie” on the day of her tragic death. Bad Wolves released “Zombie” as a single, where they committed to donating the proceeds to her four children.
Tommy Vext noted that their sadness for O’Riordan’s passing was nothing compared to that of her family and kids. “The ultimate goal is to present them with a check for a million dollars,” he said, prior to noting that they are one quarter towards that goal already.
He underscored the significance of the song “Zombie” on people’s lives, as well as memories associated with that song. Many listeners are hearing the song for the first time through Bad Wolves. He noted that it is a “true testament” to the timelessness of Dolores O’Riordan’s songwriting that will live on forever, and they are grateful to do this for the family.
Bad Wolves is made up of Doc Coyle on guitar, Kyle Konkiel on bass, Tommy Vext on lead vocals, John Boecklin on drums, and Chris Cain on guitar.
