Driver sentenced to jail for causing fatal crash

The crash that occurred in Muskegon on Jan. 9 killed a Wyoming man.
MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – A driver who caused a traffic crash that killed a Grand Rapids-area man has been sentenced to serve 120 days in jail.
Martin Joseph Nolan III,41, of Muskegon Township pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor moving violation causing death.
The Jan. 9 crash at Seaway Drive/Moses Jones Parkway and Marquette Avenue killed Russell Bullen, 68, of Wyoming.
Nolan pleaded no contest on June 1, according to court records.
Nolan was traveling south on Seaway when he failed to stop at a stoplight, according to the Muskegon Police Department report of the incident. Bullen was traveling east on Marquette when the crash occurred around 2:15 p.m., according to the report.
Nolan was not alleged to have been driving under the influence.
In addition to jail time, Nolan was ordered to serve 24 months of probation, seek outpatient treatment and pay $1,125 in court costs and fines.
Nolan’s record includes convictions for larceny in a building in 2005, uttering and publishing in 2006, financial transaction device fraud in 2008 and possession of controlled substance in 2016, according to Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat.
