EA Sports announced Friday that “NBA Live 19” will now offer gamers the option to create a female player for the first time in basketball video games. The company announced its decision along with a video of one of the WNBA’s best players, Candace Parker, discussing her development as a player.
“YOU’RE IN THE GAME. CREATE YOUR PLAYER IN #NBALIVE19 #ShesInTheGame,” EA Sports NBA Live wrote on Twitter with the Parker video.
The #ShesInTheGame movement comes after the gaming company’s ground-breaking decision to include WNBA teams and their rosters in last year’s NBA Live video game. EA Sports wrote that it is “an important step toward leveling the playing field, providing gamers increased opportunities to express their unique individuality and create a reflection of themselves while competing in the game.”
“NBA Live 19” officially hits the shelves Sept. 7 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, where gamers will be able to use “The One” game mode, which plays on a hardwood floor instead of a blacktop and can have male and female ballers on the same team or as opponents.
