An employee was injured in an explosion and fire at a fireworks plant in Missouri Tuesday, the day before July Fourth.
Locals reported a loud explosion near the AM Pyrotechnics plant in Pleasant Hope to dispatchers, and when firefighters arrived, they witnessed multiple explosions inside the building, according to Fire Protection District Chief Jake Agee.
Most of the employees had gotten out of the building before emergency crews had arrived, but one woman who worked at the plant had to be rescued from inside and was later airlifted to a nearby hospital with injuries, KY3 reported . The cause of the fire is under investigation, the Springfield News-Leader reported .
“Now we’re just kind of working to keep everybody back and keep everything safe,” Agee said.

AM Pyrotechnics provides fireworks for the Springfield Cardinals minor-league baseball team, which said in a statement that its July Fourth festivities will go on as scheduled. The sports team is “mostly concerned tonight with the well-being of all involved,” according to a statement.
“AM Pyrotechnics has been a great partner of the Springfield Cardinals since our inaugural season,” the company said in a statement. “The entire Cardinals organization would like to send our heartfelt prayers to all of their employees and their families. We ask all of our fans to do the same.”
