Epic Games confirms that the heavy sniper weapon will be coming to Fortnite, and a leaked video shows off just how much damage the legendary weapon can do.
It was almost three weeks ago that Fortnite fans caught wind that a new sniper rifle weapon was nearing release, with Epic Games finally confirming its impending arrival today. The Fortnite in-game menu now teases the Heavy Sniper, which will come in both a legendary and epic variants. At the same time, FNBRLeaks has simultaneously shown off the legendary heavy sniper in a leaked video, revealing a weapon that will be truly devastating to fort and foe alike.
The leaked in-game video demos the weapon against a variety of surfaces, with the heavy sniper weapon easily obliterating brick, metal, and wood wall partitions in one hit. It’s unclear if players standing behind the walls would take any damage (as was suspected from the initial leak), but in any event the heavy sniper weapon seems to be a strong anti-fort option for players who happen to pick it up. With a staggering 157 damage attributed to the legendary weapon, it can one-shot both wall and opponent with ease – though trees will take two bullets to be removed as if they were Thanos-snapped.
Gamers can take a look at the heavy sniper weapon in-game below:
The heavy sniper rifle appears to be based on the Barrett M82 .50 caliber sniper rifle, and the revealed specifications from the datamine aren’t far off from what they were in the initial leak: the legendary rare weapon boasts a feisty 157 damage, with a reload time of 4.1 seconds, a fire rate of 0.33, and simplistic magazine size of 1. It’s a heavy hitter with a slow reload speed, providing some balance to those who want to either tear down wall cover or simply just blow away the competition. The epic variant of the heavy sniper wasn’t shown in the video, so its exact specifications are still a mystery.
The Week 6 challenges for the game’s fifth season have also been leaked, though the full details on how some of the challenges will unfold have yet to be truly determined. Epic Games is clearly going full steam ahead when it comes to keeping Fortnite fans happy in regards to new content, with the heavy sniper being just the latest in a string of new gameplay additions. When the company introduced the Compact SMG a few weeks ago many fans thought it was too overpowered, so it’ll be interesting to see how the community reacts to a rifle that blows away walls in one shot.
Fortnite is available now for Nintendo Switch, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. An Android version is expected to release later this summer.
