With upsets, overtimes and blowouts, Week 4 of college football was not short on crazy standout plays. There were a lot of highlights to choose from this week, but we rounded up the best of the best.
This week, our list of 10 top plays features a couple trick plays, special teams at its best and multiple truly incredible catches. They don’t always have to come from the best teams or playoff contenders. These plays are picked based on pure athleticism, the shock factor and overall contribution to each specific game.
While Stanford ultimately beat Oregon in overtime, Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert put on an outstanding show, which included this 23-yard dart to Dillon Mitchell, who amazingly pulled down the catch.
Missouri didn’t stand a chance with this one. The blocked punt bounced perfectly in front of Georgia freshman defensive back Eric Stokes, who ran it in for this eight-yard touchdown.
So the Fighting Illini got pummeled by Penn State on Friday, but this reverse trick play between wide receivers Trenard Davis and Ricky Smalling gave them their first and only lead early in the third quarter.

The pass downfield from Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger was on the money, but Collin Johnson’s leap into the end zone for a 31-yard touchdown was simply incredible. It gave the Longhorns a lead in the third quarter they’d never relinquish.
What’s better than a 41-yard bomb down the field? Ole Miss wide receiver D. K. Metcalf’s amazing one-handed touchdown catch off Jordan Ta’amu’s deep pass in the third quarter of the their team’s win.
This was just one of several key plays that helped Old Dominion pull off a shocking upset against then-No. 13 Virginia Tech. With about a minute and a half left in the game, Jeremy Cox’s 40-yard TD run put the Monarchs up by 14 points to effectively end the game.
It didn’t matter that Stanford quarterback K. J. Costello’s near-perfect pass was deflected and bobbled because Colby Parkinson became the hero of the game with his fast reflexes. Aside from Oregon fans, you’ll want to watch this stunning play a couple times.
