Michigan man, 21, killed in fiery crash with semi-truck

DELTA COUNTY, MI – A 21-year-old Michigan man was killed when the vehicle he was driving crossed into the path of semi-truck in the Upper Peninsula.
The Michigan State Police Gladstone Post is investigating the incident that occurred on US-41 just north of S .15 Road in Delta County when a southbound car driven by Sean Lake of L’anse crossed the centerline shortly after 4:10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.
The driver of the semi-truck, 27-year-old Brandon Belanger of Escanaba, attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to. According to police, a head-on collision occurred resulting in both vehicles erupting in flames.
Lake was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the semi was transported to OSF St. Francis in Escanaba with minor injuries. US-41 was closed for several hours during the investigation and clean-up.
Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by the Masonville Township Fire Department, Delta County Sheriff Department, Delta County Road Commission, U. P. Health Systems Rampart EMS, Delta County Medical Examiners Office, Pro Towing and Gene’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
