Serena Williams knows she can always count on pal Meghan Markle to have her back.
Discussing her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex in an interview with Australia’s “The Project,” which took place three days after her US Open defeat, Williams, 36, said she and Markle, 37, stay in touch regularly.
“We were actually just texting each other this morning,” revealed the tennis ace.
“We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently,” she added.
After reportedly meeting in 2010, Williams’ bond with Markle continued to grow over the years. In May, the athlete and husband Alexis Ohanian attended the former “Suits” star’s wedding to Prince Harry, a moment Williams believes will have a lasting impact.

It’s going to be something that people never forget. The whole service was really wonderful, and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy. And I think that’s what happened.”
While Markle supported Williams at Wimbledon over the summer, the newest member of the royal family missed her friend’s outburst on the court at the Open earlier this month.
Williams exploded on chair umpire Carlos Ramos after being penalized for getting coached on the side by her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. She believes she was unfairly treated because of her sex.
“I just don’t understand… if you’re a female, you should be able to do even half of what a guy can do,” she said.
