Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) tried to tie President Donald Trump to the horrific shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, but not even CNN was buying it.
During an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Rep. Schiff explained that he doesn’t believe the president has done enough to condemn violence in the United States, claiming he “sets the tone” for “division.”
Both Tapper and CNN’s twitter team highlighted the fact that Rep. Schiff was trying to accuse the president of promoting violence, even though President Trump has condemned the violence several times.
In the case of the Tree of Life Synagogue, the president condemned the attack and called for the death penalty for the gunman. As for the attempted bombings of prominent Democrats, the president condemned the attacks and called for unity.
Rep. Schiff doesn’t think that matters.

“No one sets the tone more than the president of the United States and the tone that he sets is one of division, often hatred. Sometimes one of incitement of violence against journalists. And there’s no escaping our collective responsibility, but there’s no escaping the tone that he sets for the country.”
Rep. Schiff continued his attack on the president, claiming that his entire purpose is to divide Americans.
“It’s not enough that on the day of a tragedy, he says the right words. If every day of the year, he’s saying things to bring us into conflict with each other,” Rep. Adam Schiff says of President Donald Trump #CNNSOTU pic.twitter.com/HWPxoBUefn

“Honestly, I think this president’s whole modus operandi is to divide us. He gets up in the morning with new and inventive ways to divide us and it’s not enough that on the day of a tragedy he says the right words, if every day of the year, he’s saying things to bring us into conflict with each other.”
Not even CNN agreed with Rep. Schiff’s attempt to saddle President Trump with the blame for the shootings, highlighting the condemnation calls for unity from the president.
While Rep. Schiff claims that President Trump is the one causing division in the United States, it seems like he is trying to cause some division of his own.
