Pete Hines has explained what happens when you die during a main or side quest in Fallout 76. According to him, players would have to start over from the auto-save point.
So, what happens when you die during a quest in Fallout 76? Well, you just have to pick it back up from wherever you respawn, according to Pete Hines. During a recent conversation on Twitter, he explained that quests can be picked up again in case you die during one. But there is a problem here, the game doesn’t let you manually save your progress which means you can not create a manual save points during a quest or otherwise.
Many, including me, use this way to complete difficult main and side quests. What you do is create a manual save point prior to entering the difficult area, boss fight, puzzle etc. If you fail you won’t have to start all over again. However, since you can not create manual saves in Fallout 76 if you die you have to start from wherever the game auto-saved.
Todd Howard previously stated that players would play this game for a long time. Not allowing manual saves is one way to extend play time as save points aren’t in your control.
But this isn’t something that can’t be changed via minor update. If the community thinks this method doesn’t work for them, Bethesda would change it. Bethesda is actually one of those companies that listen to consumer feedback.
The game is releasing on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 11.
