Google Pixel 3 is out and understandably many YouTube channels have started running performance tests and comparisons on Google’s latest flagship. As expected, the most highlighted comparison is that of with Apple’s iPhone XS. Sadly, the numbers are far from inspiring if you’re a Pixel fan or worse, a user. A speed test conducted between the Pixel 3 XL and the iPhone XS Max by known YouTube channel ‘PhoneBuff’ showed severe memory management issues with Google’s offering. The Pixel was over a minute slower than the iPhone while loading apps, specially while reloading them from memory. And that is when both devices come with the same amount of RAM.
During the test each phone opened the same series of apps in the same order in two laps. The first lap measured the speed of the device, and the second round looked at memory management since the same apps were opened again from memory. The results were quite shocking. iPhone XS Max finished the first lap in 1 minute and 46 seconds and in comparison Pixel 3 XL took 2 minutes and 2 seconds to open all the apps. And it became even worse for Pixel during the second lap, where the iPhone reopened all the apps a staggering 49 seconds earlier than Google’s Pixel, meaning that Pixel 3 isn’t exactly doing a great job at keeping apps in memory.
Although the test conducted by ‘PhoneBuff’ isn’t exactly a scientific one, it is still one of the best out there. And even a benchmark comparison video uploaded by Apple Insider shows iPhone XS Max as the clear winner in various tests including Geekbench 4, AnTuTu, Octane 2.0, and GFXBench.
