It isn’t just having true-life musicians such as Lady Gaga and Lukas Nelson in “A Star Is Born” that add to the film’s authenticity: Gaga and Bradley Cooper also made a pact to sing live during their scenes, some of which took place at actual music venues in front of real audiences.
Here are a few of those concert moments in the film:
Stagecoach Festival
The opening scene, featuring Cooper onstage as Jackson Maine, was shot at the 2017 edition of this country music blowout in Indio, Calif. “That was filmed right in between Jamey Johnson’s set and my dad’s set,” says Nelson of warming up the crowd for father Willie. “We literally filmed that scene in 10 minutes. [Bradley] went up, sang exactly what you hear in the movie, and then we left. We got it in one take.”
Glastonbury Festival
Last year, on the Glastonbury grounds in Somerset, England, Kris Kristofferson gave up a few minutes of his set so that Cooper could rock the stage. Then the actor turned around and introduced the man who starred in the 1976 version of “A Star Is Born.”
Coachella
Days after Gaga headlined the festival in 2017, she returned to the Indio, Calif., site of the event to shoot scenes with Cooper in front of an audience full of the pop diva’s Little Monsters.
