In its latest update, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 adds one of its most infamous zombies bosses, Blightfather, into the game’s Battle Royale mode, Blackout.
In Treyarch’s latest tuning of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, many new tweaks, additions, and revisions have been made for all three game modes, with Blackout getting special attention. As it so happens, the first-person shooter’s Battle Royale mode has now added one of its most infamous Zombies bosses, Blightfather, for players to encounter.
South of the Asylum, near the Graveyard, a red pillar of light marks where Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 players can take on the Zombies boss imported from IX, with Treyarch stating that players who challenge Blightfather and emerge victorious will be “handsomely rewarded.” While the Blightfather special event is available now in all Blackout playlists on all platforms, it will end on November 13, meaning players now have less than a week left to take the Blightfather in a Battle Royale match.
Although the introduction of Blightfather in Blackout headlined Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s newest update, Treyarch also used the update to make a significant change to the title based on player feedback. Arguably the least popular item in Blackout, the 9-Bang has reportedly been removed from the Battle Royale mode. Its overpowered ability to stun full-squads and leave them defenseless has been one of the biggest gripes fans have had with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 thus far, so it is encouraging to see that Treyarch has been listening to and implementing player feedback.
Despite some backlash that Treyarch received for the substitution of Blackout for a single-player campaign, Black Ops 4‘s battle royale mode could redefine the way Call of Duty games will be approached in the future. While other massive franchises are planning on including a Battle Royale mode in the near-future, Black Ops 4 has the luxury of being the first major online FPS multiplayer franchise of this generation to successfully implement it. There’s no doubt that Blackout has contributed heavily to the game’s success, so there’s a chance it could take the place of single-player yet again in sequels.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
