Samsung last week unveiled its first ever foldable smartphone. This time a new report has highlighted the approximate month of launch. It has also revealed the price at which the foldable smartphone may launch.
Samsung last week flaunted its ‘breakthrough’ display tech by giving us the first-ever glimpse of its foldable screen-laden smartphone. Although the South Korean tech firm gave specifications on its foldable screens, it didn’t give much information about the launch except for that it is coming next year. Now, a new report has popped up revealing the tentative launch time frame and the maximum price at which it may get sold.
A report by Yonhap News Agency, Samsung is zeroing-in on March as the launch date for its foldable smartphone. The smartphone is said to arrive on the sidelines of Galaxy S10 variant that will support 5G. The non-5G variant is said to arrive February though. The foldable smartphone is said to arrive under the ‘Galaxy F’ moniker.
For those unaware, Samsung Electronics President Koh Dong-jin while introducing the foldable display last week, said that the foldable phone will hit the market with at least 1 million. This also means we might be able to see the final product at the upcoming MWC 2019 conference.
As for the pricing, the report adds that Samsung’s foldable phone could cost as much as $1770 (roughly Rs 1.3 lakhs), which won’t just make it Samsung’s costliest ‘Galaxy’ smartphone yet but will also make it pricier than the latest iPhone models. For reference, the iPhone XS Max 512GB is priced at $1,449. That also means three OnePlus 6T (6GB+128GB) smartphones (priced at $549) and $123 spare.
Samsung, at its developer conference in San Francisco last week, showcased its foldable display and gave some specifications as well. The outer screen or the cover display measures 4.58-inch with 21:9 aspect ratio and 840×1960 pixels while the main display measures 7.3-inch with 4.2:3 aspect ratio and 1536×2152 pixels. The firm added that it’s new, larger screen will be able to run three apps simultaneously on the large screen, something that Samsung called Multi Active Window.
