A riled-up President Trump once again leaped to the defense of his latest Supreme Court nominee after learning of the collapse of another accuser’s story.
“A vicious accuser of Justice Kavanaugh has just admitted that she was lying, her story was totally made up, or FAKE!” he indignantly tweeted Saturday morning .
“Can you imagine if he didn’t become a Justice of the Supreme Court because of her disgusting False Statements. What about the others? Where are the Dems on this?”
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who heads the Senate Judiciary Committee, asked the FBI on Friday to investigate Judy Munro-Leighton. She had claimed that Kavanaugh raped her in the back seat of a car years ago.
Committee investigators discovered Munro-Leighton is a “left-wing activist” who is “decades older than Kavanaugh.” She admitted that she made the claim in anger because she opposed Kavanaugh’s nomination.
Her accusation was one of many that came in the wake of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s Sept. 27 testimony saying Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her when both were in high school – an account that nearly derailed his confirmation. The Senate approved Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court days later.
The battle over Kavanaugh goosed Republican voters’ enthusiasm for Tuesday’s midterm elections – and Trump has mentioned it frequently on the campaign trail.
