Social media weighed in on the Dec. 11,2018 confrontation between President Donald Trump, Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi over border wall funding. Trump threatened a government shutdown.
Heated arguments in the Oval Office are nothing new, but it’s rare for those disputes to be televised to the world.
That’s exactly what happened at the White House on Tuesday, where Republican President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence sat down with Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and the likely next Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco.
The discussion largely centered on Trump’s demand for billions of dollars to pay for the construction of a wall along the U. S.-Mexico border — a request Schumer and Pelosi flatly rejected. In response, Trump promised to shut down the federal government if his demand wasn’t met.
“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck,” Trump said. “Because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into this country.
