Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Hits Back at GOP Booing: 'Don’t Hate Me Cause You Ain’t Me, Fellas'

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was booed by some House Republicans after she voted for Rep. Nancy Pelosi to become speaker.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman elected to Congress, hit back at the House Republicans who booed her when she voted for Rep. Nancy Pelosi to be speaker.
Ocasio-Cortez, 29, was elected representative for New York’s 14th district in the November midterms after the democratic socialist defeated 10-term Democrat incumbent Joe Crowley in a huge political upset.

She was sworn in on Thursday and threw her backing behind Pelosi. After she rose to voice her support for Pelosi to be speaker, some GOP members booed and groaned, treatment her other Democrat colleagues did not receive.
“Over 200 members voted for Nancy Pelosi today, yet the GOP only booed one: me,” Ocasio-Cortez later wrote on Twitter. “Don’t hate me cause you ain’t me, fellas.”
The young Congresswoman has spoken out about facing sexism and racism in her early days on the Hill before her official swearing in.
