For the first time ever, the original Diablo game is available digitally online courtesy of Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.com.
Diablo first came out all the way back in 1996. Taking place in the Kingdom of Khanduras, the player must battle their way through 16 randomly generated dungeon levels, walk into Hell itself, and fight the eponymous demonic overlord.
The game retains its authentic 1996 aesthetic, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics and the ability to matchmake via the classic version fo Blizzard’s Battle.net service, but has been given a little polish to bring it into the modern age.
The 2019 version of 1996 Diablo has out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, a whole host of bug fixes, and high resolution support. This means that it’ll run far smoother than your journey through the underworld probably will.
The game, like all GOG.com games, is DRM free and requires no activation or online connection to play. It’s also compatible with Windows 7,8, and 10.
