Our first impressions of the Google Pixel 3a are going to be short – there’s not a lot to say about this phone that’s not already been said about the Google Pixel 3 proper. Both the Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL are very, very similar to their predecessors. They’re made by the same people, they run the same software, and they have exactly the same backside camera setup.
The Google Pixel 3a XL is the same width as the Pixel 3 XL, and taller by .1-inch. The width is also the same, and they’re both rolling with OLED displays. At first glance, it looks like the Pixel 3a XL simply does away with the area of display that’s now got the notch on the Pixel 3 XL – but it’s not quite that simple.
The display on the Pixel 3a XL is 6-inches diagonally while the (notched) display on the Pixel 3 XL is 6.3-inches diagonally. While the display is larger on the Pixel 3 XL, it’s also denser with pixels at 523 ppi (QHD+). The Pixel 3a XL has an FHD+ display at 402 ppi.
The smooth sensitivity and care given to the industrial design of the Pixel 3 family is still present here with the Pixel 3a, both the smaller and the larger.
