Fortnite’s new live music set on the Party Royale island was another important Metaverse moment.
Late last month, Fortnite put on a huge-scale Travis Scott concert in the game, which was a deeply trippy, impressive affair, though one main criticism emerged from it.
As wild as it was, it was not really a “live” performance. It was more like a pre-recorded, semi-interactive cutscene. Well, last night Fortnite tried something else. It didn’t have the fanfare of the Travis Scott show, but it was somehow almost as engaging in its own way.
Fortnite has just introduced Party Royale, a new, small island where no one has guns and everyone just sort of…hangs out. You can shoot people, but only with plunger-tipped bows and arrows and paint bombs. You can race around in ATVs and hoverboards. And you can head on down to the beach where a concert stage pumps out non-stop dance music.
Last night, Fortnite announced that EDM producer Diplo would be performing a live set at the Party Royale concert stage.
