Nineteen inmates in the Polk County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19, officials said Monday.
The jail, which reported its first case at the end of April, last updated its coronavirus cases on May 6, when four inmates had tested positive for the disease.
The jail has implemented social-distancing measures and currently has enough isolation areas for those who have tested positive, Lt. Jeff Rullman said Monday.
Iowa state prisons additionally reported Monday that 21 inmates and 13 staffers had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, mostly at the Iowa Medical Classification Center Correctional Facility in Coralville.
